About the Property
The Oyster Box has stood on Lighthouse Road in Umhlanga since 1954, directly opposite the red-and-white lighthouse that is one of KwaZulu-Natal's most photographed landmarks. Now part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection — the hotel holds personal significance for the group's founders, Stanley and Beatrice Tollman, who had their first date here — the property has grown into an 86-room, suite and villa hotel spread across gardens and a stretch of Umhlanga's beachfront.
The hotel's food and drink are as much a drawcard as its rooms: a long-running curry buffet sits alongside fresh oysters, champagne service and locally-sourced, organic ingredients across venues that include The Grill Room, The Ocean Terrace and The Palm Court's high tea.
