Gwango Elephant Lodge, Hwange National Park

Gwango Elephant Lodge sits near Dete in Matabeleland North, about 3 km from the Hwange National Park boundary. It is a sister property of Gwango Heritage Resort, which is also about 3 km away. It is a small lodge of six rooms: four Forest Chalets and two double-storey Tree Top Villas, each with a queen bed apart from one twin-bedded chalet.

Meals are served at the Stone House, with breakfast, lunch and dinner on the menu and garden-fresh produce a feature. Full board includes non-alcoholic drinks. The lodge has a splash pool and a raised outdoor firepit. It also offers daily laundry, turn-down service and farm tours. Game drives are available at extra cost.

The lodge can also be booked as a whole for self-catering at US$800 per night. That covers all six rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining area, lounges, service staff and daily laundry. The Painted Dog Conservation Centre is 8 km away and horseback safaris are 6 km away. Victoria Falls is about two hours by road and Bulawayo about three.
