Manzini Region: History & Culture
Manzini sits at the crossroads of all three of Eswatini’s other regions, with the city of Manzini serving as the country’s commercial and industrial hub and the nearby Matsapha estate driving manufacturing. In the fertile Malkerns valley, pineapple farming has shaped the landscape since colonial times, while House on Fire has hosted the MTN Bushfire Festival, one of Southern Africa’s best-known arts events, every year since 2007. To the west, the pine-forested highlands around Mhlambanyatsi, 18 km from Mbabane, gave rise to the colonial-era Foresters Arms hotel, still trading today.
