About the Property

Home of the Wild Leopard

Londolozi has been run by the Varty family since the reserve's origins as Sparta Camp in 1926, and the family returned to hands-on management in 2006 after Londolozi had already become an industry benchmark. In 1976, Londolozi created the original for-profit conservation development model that became the blueprint for private reserves across Southern Africa, including pioneering live elephant relocation in 1979 and advocating for the fence removals that eventually joined Sabi Sand to Kruger National Park.

The reserve sits on the Sand River within the unfenced Sabi Sand Game Reserve, part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park. Panthera research has credited Londolozi with the highest density of leopards in the world, and its conservation record includes a 97% reduction in rhino poaching on the property. Guests choose from five distinct camps: the family-friendly Varty and Founders Camps, where children aged 6 and up are welcome, the secluded multi-generational Pioneer Camp, and the adults-focused Tree Camp and Private Granite Suites, both holding Relais & Châteaux status.

Each camp keeps its own character, from Varty Camp's heritage architecture of dolerite rock walls and brick paths to Tree Camp's leadwood-canopy suites with private plunge pools, but all are built around ranger- and tracker-led game drives, walking safaris and the reserve's Sand River setting.

✓ Highest recorded density of leopards in the world (Panthera research) ✓ Birthplace of the original for-profit conservation model (1976) ✓ Five distinct camps, from family-friendly to Relais & Châteaux-listed
