Golden Plains, Clarens Art Village & Drakensberg Foothills
Free State: History & Culture
South Africa’s heartland province — the Free State is a vast, predominantly flat plateau of golden wheatfields and sunflower farms bookended by the dramatic Drakensberg foothills in the east and the Kalahari scrub in the west. It was the centre of the Boer Republics and the Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902), and its capital Bloemfontein is one of South Africa’s three capital cities.
