About the Property
Bushveld Terrace is owned by the Turner family. Johannesburg businessman John Turner spent a decade developing a 2.6-hectare property near Phalaborwa, once a plant nursery with a deteriorating house, into today's hotel and dining destination. Award-winning architect Robin MacIntosh designed the buildings, turning the original house into the Homestead, a private bush residence with 8 individually bookable rooms run on a full-board basis with two game drives included. John's son Dave and daughter-in-law Debbie now run daily operations, with Dave handling finances and HR and Debbie overseeing guest relations, training and marketing.
The hotel's six room types range from the Standard Room up to the four-poster Marula Suite and the family-sized Family Suite, all with breakfast included, air conditioning and satellite TV. Phalaborwa is the only town in South Africa that borders Kruger National Park directly, and Bushveld Terrace sits about 200 m from Phalaborwa Gate, so guided game drives and self-drive safaris both start with almost no transfer time.
The property's restaurant, led by Chef Adriaan, won the 2024 RASA Service Excellence Award in Phalaborwa, and the hotel also runs a spa, gym and pool for guests staying either in the main hotel or the Homestead lodge.
