About the Property
Evolve Back Kalahari, also called Evolve Back Gham Dhao Lodge and formerly Haina Kalahari Lodge, is run by Evolve Back (Orange County Resorts & Hotels Ltd). The group is based in Bangalore, India, and also runs resorts in Coorg, Kabini, Hampi and Mandu. According to ATTA, "Gham Dhao" means "Tracks of the Lion" in the local San language.
The lodge is at Farm 67 Hainaveld, inside its own 11,000-hectare private game reserve on the northern border of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). It takes no more than 20 guests. Meals are served at a communal table in a thatch-and-timber Main Lodge, which looks out over a permanent waterhole. The setting is remote. There is no mobile signal, Wi-Fi works only in the Main Lodge, and the lodge recommends flying in from Maun to its private airstrip rather than driving the 4x4-only roads.
Three things set it apart. The Sky-Luxe tents have a raised sky bed with 360-degree views of the bush and the Kalahari night sky. Guests can go on a walk with the resident San people to learn about their culture and survival skills. And the lodge runs guided day trips into the CKGR with breakfast and lunch included, so you can explore the reserve without camping inside it.

By air (recommended): Air transfer from Maun to the lodge's private airstrip (licensed to 5,700 kg; prior landing permission required).
Maun: Take the Makalamabedi road; the lodge turn-off is about 52 km from town. A 4x4 is required, and the lodge does not encourage driving.
South Africa via Rakops: About 75 km along a cut line from Rakops. Last reliable fuel is at Mopipi.
Ghanzi: About 130 km along the fence line. 4x4 only.
