Kunjani Villas & Wines

Kunjani Villas & Wines is a self-catering villa estate on Blumberg Drive in Devonvale, Stellenbosch, set among working vineyards in the Cape Winelands. It is built around its own wine label, Kunjani Wines, which produces a Chenin Blanc, a Sauvignon Blanc, a Shiraz, a Cabernet Sauvignon, a Red Blend and the Stolen Chicken Rosé — sold only at the estate, never through outside retailers. The Kunjani Shiraz 2015 won a Gold Medal at the Michelangelo International Wine Awards and was a Top 12 finalist in the Shiraz Challenge, and guests who join the Kunjani Loyalty Club get early access to new releases and invitations to private tastings and winemaker dinners.

The estate offers nine villa and suite types sleeping 2 to 6, from the one-bedroom Merlot, Cabernet and Garden Villas to the two-bedroom Shiraz and Stolen Chicken Villas and the King XL-bedded Residence, Private Cellar and Presidential Villas. Each has its own veranda with braai facilities and access to two shared, vineyard-view swimming pools; the Residence Villa is kitchen-free for guests who prefer to dine out, while the Kunjani Suite includes breakfast. The Stolen Chicken Villa, Presidential Villa and Kunjani Suite are wheelchair accessible.

Kunjani was founded by Paul Barth, who grew up in Germany's Rheingau wine region, and South African entrepreneur Pia Watermeyer, who together describe the estate's winemaking as combining "German precision and South African soul." The name itself is a warm Zulu greeting — "Hi, how are you?" — that the owners say reflects their mission to "bring people together through great wine, meaningful connection, and shared experiences."
