A 1950s Melrose house turned boutique hotel, with two acres of garden and chef Luke Dale-Roberts' Pot Luck Club on site
About the Property
The Peech Hotel occupies a former private house on North Street in Melrose North, built as a family home in the 1950s and lived in for four decades before James Peech bought the property in 2002, restored it and opened it as a boutique hotel in 2004. Today it holds 32 rooms and suites — Classic and Luxury Rooms, Peech Suites and a two-bedroom Peech Villa — set across two acres of landscaped garden with two outdoor swimming pools, opposite James & Ethel Gray Park and next door to the Wanderers Stadium.
Food and drink run through two venues. The Pot Luck Club, led by chef Luke Dale-Roberts with head chef Ebie du Toit, serves globally-inspired small plates as a shared dining experience and is open to the public — it was named Hotel Restaurant of the Year at the 2026 Luxe Restaurant Awards and holds a Two Star Gourmet Guide Award. Peech Garden Restaurant, for hotel guests, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner from an indoor dining room with a wood-burning fireplace and an outdoor patio, with a gin bar for afternoon sundowners and a Patio & Pool Bar.
Every room comes with air conditioning, a private patio or balcony and a minibar fridge; Peech Suites add an open-plan living space and the Peech Villa adds its own private garden. The hotel is about ten minutes' drive from Sandton, five minutes from Rosebank and Melrose Arch, and around 45 minutes from OR Tambo International Airport, with free secure parking and complimentary bag storage for guests heading on safari.
