Short answer: no, Ngoma is not a 24-hour crossing. Plan to arrive well before 18:00.

Where it is

The Ngoma Bridge crosses the Chobe River between Namibia and Botswana. On the Namibian side, Ngoma is a settlement in the Zambezi Region, 70 km south-east of the regional capital, Katima Mulilo (Wikipedia). The Wikimedia Commons geotag for the border post photo is about 17.914° S, 24.712° E; the bridge itself is about 1 km away.

On the Botswana side the road runs through the northern edge of Chobe National Park to Kasane and Kazungula. In February 2025 Botswana announced that the transit route between Sedudu Gate near Kasane and Ngoma Gate would open 24 hours a day from 1 April 2025, with increased patrols (ATTA, 27 February 2025). That announcement is about the park road. Botswana’s immigration list, updated in April 2025, still shows the Ngoma border post at 07:00 to 18:00.

Road distances from the post using the OpenStreetMap route planner (OSRM, checked 13 October 2026):

  • Kasane: 59 km, about 1 hour
  • Kasane Airport: 56 km, about 1 hour
  • Kazungula: 67 km, about 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Katima Mulilo: 70 km, about 55 minutes

Driving times are without queues at the border.
