A highland gem — where Basotho warmth meets modern comfort, 75 km from AfriSki
About the Property
Qhanolla Guest House is a family-run property in the Phahameng suburb of Butha-Buthe, owned and operated by Morebane and Sana. Tucked off Phahameng Road opposite Soofia English Medium School, the guest house sits at the foothills of the Maluti Mountains and has earned a reputation as one of northern Lesotho's most welcoming stops.
The owner spent time working on a wine estate near Paarl in the Western Cape — and the influence shows. Guests find a level of thoughtfulness unusual for a small highland town: proper shower fittings, a real espresso machine, high-speed WiFi, and electric blankets for Lesotho's sharp winter cold.
At just 8 km from the Caledonspoort/Fouriesburg Border Post, Qhanolla is the first (and best) stop for travellers crossing from South Africa's Free State into the Mountain Kingdom.
Guest Review Scores
"The rooms and facilities are exceptional. The owner was friendly and came through to resolve the problem we had. Very sweet and understanding guy. The rooms are beautiful, clean and very warm."

"A very bumpy driveway leads to a surprising enclave of calm and civility. The place is immaculate, clean and quiet. The staff are an absolute joy. I can heartily recommend the local trout — it was truly excellent. It punches well above its 3-star rating."

"What a small little gem! Rooms are in bright colours with a fantastic bed, fantastic shower, a fridge and coffee/tea options. The best is the common sitting room with fireplace."
